Dr. Brian Burnett was appointed Senior Vice President for Finance and Operations and the Chief Financial Officer for the University of Minnesota on November 17, 2016. His appointment as Treasurer of the Regents of the University of Minnesota was ratified by the Board of Regents on December 9, 2016. University offices reporting directly to him include the Office of Human Resources, the Office of Information Technology, University Finance, and University Services. Dr. Burnett is a member of the President’s Senior Leadership Team.
Dr. Burnett previously served as the University of Missouri System Vice President for Finance and Chief Financial Officer from August 2014 to November 2016. He provided leadership in areas of cash, investment and debt management, facilities planning, real estate, risk management, internal audit, supply chain, budgeting, financial reporting and financial systems management. He ensured integrity of the university's financial statements and provided oversight in management of financial, operational, and compliance risk.
Dr. Burnett earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from University of Colorado-Boulder, a master’s degree in finance from University of Colorado-Denver, and a doctor of philosophy in educational leadership, research and policy from University of Colorado-Colorado Springs.
